Shuttlers hope for career spark with Games gold

SHUTTLERS Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin are using next month’s Kuala Lumpur SEA Games as their career launching pad.

The world No. 22 men’s doubles pair have done quite well to establish themselves as the national No. 2 over the last one year but have yet to win any significant titles.

They have won one title – the second-tier Bitburger Open – in Germany last year.

Winning the gold at the Aug 19-30 Games will be a perfect boost to Ee Yi-Yew Sin’s confidence.

“It’ll be great to win our first big title at our first SEA Games in front of the home fans, but it’ll not be easy,” said the 24-year-old Ee Yi.

“The Indonesians and Thais will be our main challengers,” he added.

Expectations are high on Ee Yi-Yew Sin to make up for the absence of Rio Olympic silver medallists Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem at the Games. Wee Kiong-V Shem will be taking part in the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from Aug 21-27.

Might Go Down South This Week

I might go down to KL this sometime this week to collect a cheque and my boss will attend to other matters. If he decides to go down, it will be last minute and we have to put my puppy, Leia into a pet hotel or pet store. Well, she has to learn to be caged up for some time instead of roaming around freely in my computer room or apartment. So, far her temperament is quite good already, not barking non-stop and disturbing the surroundings. She barks for a while and then stop, giving me some peace to continue working with her behind me. Well, you see, her cage and lots of toys are in my computer room as well, since this condo is a 2-bedroom layout. Should we go down, we will use my aunt's car E250 of a newer model to drive down for business.

The Iceberg Illustration

The above is the Iceberg illustration of people seeing your success that is one third of the 2 thirds of failures, hard work, persistence, several disappointments, sacrifices, dedication and discipline that people do Not see your privacy. For instance, I have had to work in several companies in Singapore and learnt on the job the basics in using a computer to be effective now in my job. What they don't see is the hard work and discipline to learn new things and also disappointments as I had to work as a sales assistant when I returned to Penang to start afresh. I could sense that I am the envy of some of his relatives since I get to work at home and also travel frequently with him. Many would kill to be in my position. But nevertheless, nothing is free, and I don't have time to mentor his niece which is the main reason for all the envy and hatred. Afterall, I did not go to university for free! So, don't ask me to teach and mentor for FREE!

So Busy Today

I was mentally tired just now after typing and amending the quotations according to the client's wishes. My boss was too busy on the phone to pay full attention to what was typed via email by the client. Since I know my boss' English to not too good, I had to take the initiative to overide his instructions as I know that is Not what the client wants and will definitely requrests for more amendments and giving the impression that the company cannot take simple instructions. Because of this, I had a headache trying to amend the little stuffs on an image software. Almost the whole day, I listen to my boss repeated the same instructions to the same worker who is a little slow to pick up what was required in his line of work.

Going down south tomorrow

Early tomorrow morning, I shall be travelling by car using my aunt's E250 that we need to help maintain as she is in Singapore and suffering from dementia. We have to go down to KL and stay there for a couple of days for work. Though I used to get uncalled for remarks from her, she is still close to my heart and I pray for her health. She is in her eighties and in need of company. As a boss, she had done unpleasant things in the past, but nevertheless, we were close at that point in time when I was a student, many years ago. Now, I have someone else in my life who happens to be my boss and partner and can no longer devote time to my aunt. Only mom and youngest sister who is still single meet her there in Singapore yearly. As I have a health condition that makes it hard to work outside, I have to endure working at home at times with a partner who may have emotional issues out of the blue, due to the past and present situation.

Blessed to work at home

I sense that I am the envy of my spouse's relatives as I have a dream job to work at home and they wish to emulate me, hoping that I could mentor them and teach them computer. But no! I did not go to university for free and even his sister was paid for giving tuition. So, there won't be free mentoring or lessons from me on how to build a website, use the different applications, etc. I had to go through the hard way and learn on the job in Singapore. The various jobs that I was working for taught me different skills that make me now more capable of working at a home office with a fax machine, multi-functional printer, scanner, 2 laptops and iPhone camera. And this is my longest employment of 13+ years with the same company while the boss is my spouse. Yes, you can say I am a partner in this business as well.

Articles to update

Today I have 1 article to update and to be approved as draft first before writing it for Trip101.com. There is a lawyer turned travel journalist based in the UK also writing for Trip101.com. There are many editors and sometimes different people give different ideas to improve on the writing and the article. Leia, my 2.5 month old Pomeranian pup, is getting to be more obedient by the day and perhaps we can save $1,500 from sending it to obedience training by learning dog training via Youtube and Pomeranian websites. They are so adorable and the white ones are supposedly more expensive and favoured. As for me, I will never trade my brown puppy for another. I have grown accustomed to its antics and behaviour.
